The middle

This week we learned how to use a computer to research and watch videos. We learned about how caterpillars turn into butterflies and different ways to demonstrate it. We acted it out, read books, watched videos, and did an art assignment! It was a lot of fun working together to learn about the caterpillar and the butterfly.

The start

Since the student I have chosen is so young I, Emily, will be posting for him. He is a prekindergarten student and is four years old.

Instead of creating a KWL chart, we just discussed some of the things he already knows and some things he would like to know.

K:
- a caterpillar looks like a worm
- a butterfly can fly
- somehow a caterpillar turns into a butterfly

W:
- how does a caterpillar turn into a butterfly?
- does the caterpillar or butterfly eat while they are in the cocoon?
- what does a butterfly eat?

Our unit question: What environment do butterflies need to survive and grow?
Our essential question: What do you think is the most important part of the life cycle and why do you think that?
